The best domain names are:
- Short
- Meaningful
- Easy to spell
- Easy to remember
- Easy to say and understand when heard
The best domain names fall into a few categories:
- Single Word Domain Names - the best, but hard to find.
Pageant.name is an example.
- 3-letter and Shorter Domain Names - shorter is better,
but they may not be meaningful.
Btw.name is an example.
- Two-Word Meaningful Domain Names - while not
short and simple, if they are definitive, they may still be good.

is an example.
Other names,
like eLawyer or MyLawyer, are not as good
because they have no meaning outside of themselves.
To get people to remember them and to pass them along is a costly job.
Dot Com (.com) and Top Level Domain Extensions
You are no longer restricted to .com names.
There are now a number of good domain name extensions,
such as .info, .biz, .bz, .name and others.
A good domain name in any extension, is better than a
weak domain name in .com.
However, if the names are the same, .com domain names can still have
a market value of 10 times other extensions and in some cases
100 times.
The reason for this is many people still have their web browsers
set to default to the .com version of a name.
So, if a person types in "calendar", the web browser
will go to "calendar.com".
If you have a .com name that people guess at,
this can be worth a good amount.
